The highly engineered acrylic tunnel manufactured for the Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp) is one of the world’s largest and widest walk-through tunnels. Considered one of the oldest zoos in the Netherlands, Diergaarde Blijdorp provides visitors with a chance to experience various marine life and wildlife.
Reynolds manufactured the acrylic tunnel and also supplied an acrylic sheet for use in several other exhibits, including the California Sea Lion and penguin exhibits.
Material in Details
The largest of the installations at the zoo, the tunnel measures 4,6 meters wide, 25 meters long, and 2,4 meters high. The acrylic is 102 mm thick to withstand the water pressure exerted while sitting on the floor of the Open Ocean exhibit at the aquarium.
Incredible Result
The tunnel provides 270-degree views of the marine life that swims in the large aquarium surrounding the tunnel.
